About Twisted Pole

Twisted Pole Studios was first opened in 2011. We started off in a small 5 pole studio and a year later moved into Warser Gate with 10 poles. Twisted Pole is ideally located in the heart of the city centre close to bus routes, tram lines, the train station and multi storey carparks. Now in its twelfth year we are the biggest pole studio in Nottingham offering all styles of pole dance, flexibility classes, chair dance workshops, as well as hosting national and international pole stars. We are extremely proud of all of our students and pride ourselves on being a welcoming and friendly studio open to everyone 16 and above.

Located on the 4th floor of a Grade II listed building benefitting from double aspect beautifully arched windows which allows tons of natural light to stream through and when the light fades our sympathetic uplights will always show you in your best light! We have original wooden floors with fantastic acoustics for those heel bangs and plenty of space to roll around working on that floor flow and choreography.

All of our instructors are qualified, first aid trained, insured and have all entered competitions. They are patient, highly knowledgeable with years of experience, they train regularly to keep their skills, pole moves and safety and spotting techniques up to date. Come along and see for yourself what a great team we have!

Stretch & Flexibility

Not just for pole dancers!

One of the best ways to improve how your body feels and moves, not to mention the way your dancing looks and feels is to increase your flexibility. Not only does an increased range of motion in your joints and muscles improve your quality of life, it also reduces the likelihood of injury and muscle pain due to a fuller range of movement in your joints and better muscle control.

During these classes we will introduce you to safe and fun stretching methods for your legs, hips, shoulders, back and any other areas that you feel needs improvement. We will work on both front and box splits as well as bridges and chest stands in a variety of different ways using both solo and partner-assisted stretching. We use a range of techniques taken from yoga, gymnastics, ballet and contortion with lots of active stretching techniques to build strong healthy and flexible muscles. We have a wide range of tools at the studio to help build confidence and maintain your comfort in our flexibility classes from yoga and floor mats to yoga blocks, straps and resistance bands.

Instructor Cat has extensive knowledge in safe and effective stretching techniques as well as an understanding of Anatomy & Physiology, she has completed courses with Xpert Flex & Flow, Alixa Flexibility Levels 1,2 & 3 as well as Advanced Stretching Technique Instructor Course with Bendy Kate. Our classes are designed for all abilities with progressions and regressions for those that need them.

FAQ

Below you'll find the answers to our most frequently asked questions

What should I wear to a pole fitness class?

We advise people to wear comfortable clothes such as leggings/shorts with a vest top and bare feet. Please avoid wearing anything too flowy and especially clothing with zips or studs as these may scratch the poles. As you progress on your pole adventure it will become necessary to wear shorts and sometimes crop tops, the more skin contact you have with the pole the more grip you will have making those super advanced moves easier to achieve!

Please DO NOT wear moisturiser on the day of your pole class as this will make the poles very slippery. Please speak to your instructor for advise on skin care if you have concerns about dry skin.

Do I need to be fit to try a pole fitness class?

Trust us when we say that ANYBODY and EVERYBODY can benefit from pole fitness classes. The great thing about pole fitness is it targets your core and upper body muscles without you even realising it because you're having so much fun! Our highly trained and experienced instructors can adapt moves to suit your fitness level and are always happy to recommend off the pole strengthening exercises to help.

I think I might be late to class, can I still join in?

If you think you are going to be more than 5 mins late for class then sadly the answer is no. We encourage people to arrive between 5-10 mins before the start of class so you have time to change, sign in and fill out any forms if you are new. The warm up is a crucial part of the class, it is designed to get your blood flowing and your muscles warm before you begin the real hard work. When people arrive late it disrupts the class and is unfair on all the others who are waiting around. Please respect your fellow pole dancers and arrive in good time :)

Can I come and try pole with out committing to a course?

Yes you can! If you are brand new to pole we have classes specifically for you on Thursdays and Sundays. If you already have some previous pole experience, why not check out our Mixed Ability class on Mondays. So no matter if you've never tried pole before or a seasoned competitor we will always be able to cater for your training.

Will it hurt?

I'm not going to lie, yes it sometimes hurts and yes you will often get bruises. This is perfectly normal - after all you are spinning and twirling yourself around a metal object! A certain amount bruising and muscle soreness after training is to be expected - if you do have any concerns please speak to your instructor and seek medical advice.

I'm pregnant, can I still come to class?

Unfortunately not. We wouldn't want anything bad to happen to either yourself or your unborn baby. We recommend that you wait at least 3 months after a natural birth and 6 months if you had a caesarean section. We appreciate that everybody is different so if you are at all unsure please get in touch with us directly 07919037619

What can I expect from my first few classes?

If you are brand new to pole, our qualified friendly instructors will guide you through the basics to ensure you are engaging the correct muscles and getting to grips with good technique and terminology. You'll begin to learn basic spins, holds and transitions, and with a bit of luck, come away from your first class wanting more!

Is there parking nearby?

With the studio being located in the heart of the city centre we do not have any parking specifically for us, however the nearest NCP car parks are located here and are within a 2 min walk of the studio:

Lace Market Car Park Pilcher Gate NG1 1QE https://www.nottinghamcity.gov...

Stoney Street NG1 1LS https://www.ncp.co.uk/find-a-c...

There is also limited on street parking on Woolpack Lane, Barker Gate and Plumtre Street
